Kitt Shute, founder of KS Employment Law, brings more than 15 years’ experience as an attorney, investigator and advisor.

Prior to founding KS Employment Law, Kitt served as the Director of Employee Relations & Investigations at Google and as the Senior Director for Employee Relations at Uber Technologies. Kitt started the ER team at Google, growing it from a team of one to a global team of 40 over 9 years. In her Employee Relations leadership roles, Kitt strived to create and maintain work environments that were fair, safe and productive for all employees, as well as serving to mitigate legal risk. In these roles, she was responsible for employee relations investigations around the world and for providing employee relations advice on a wide variety of issues.

Before starting the ER team at Google, Kitt practiced employment law in San Francisco as an Employment Litigation Associate with Cook Roos Wilbur Thompson LLP, an Associate General Counsel with the Office of the General Counsel for the Social Security Administration, and as an Employment Law Associate at Hansen Bridget. During this time, Kitt represented private and public employers in state and federal court and administrative proceedings. She specialized in litigating discrimination, harassment, wrongful termination and wage and hour actions. Kitt also advised employers on conducing investigations, employment policies and handbooks, and disciplinary actions and terminations. She has experience representing employers before the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing, the California Workers’ Compensation Appeals Board, the California Labor Commissioner, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the Merit Systems Protection Board.

Prior to her career in employment law, Kitt worked as a professional stage manager and production manager for various non-profit theater companies including Aurora Theatre Company, Berkeley Repertory Theatre, Marin Theatre Company, the Magic Theatre, San Diego Repertory Theatre, the Old Globe, as well as many others. Kitt continues to be an avid supporter of both Bay Area and Mendocino theaters.

Kitt is licensed to practice law in California and is a member of the Association of Workplace Investigators (AWI). She has a J.D. from U.C. Hastings College of the Law where she was a Senior Executive Editor for COMM/ENT, the Hastings Communications & Entertainment Law Journal and has a B.A. in theater arts cum laude from UCLA. A Bay Area native, Kitt grew up in the East Bay and currently lives in San Francisco with her husband and their two cats, Raider and Niner.
